He is venerated as a guardian deity, a martial god of wealth (武財神), and a protector of justice. The devotion came to Thailand with the Teochew and Hokkien diaspora; Guan Di shrines stand across the country, including in Thonburi and at the Talat Somdet Chao Phraya shrine in Bangkok.
