Legend tells of his miraculous birth, his fearlessness, and his celebrated stories of filial piety and defiance of fate. Chinese communities venerate him as a guardian of children and families and a banisher of misfortune. The devotion came to Thailand with the Teochew and Hokkien diaspora; a renowned shrine is the Nezha San Tai Zi shrine at Ang Sila, Chonburi.
